Getting Here

Asahikawa Airport (AKJ) is the nearest airport and the preferred gateway for many visitors. From the airport, travel to central Asahikawa by airport bus, taxi or rental car. Direct flights and connections vary by season.

Look for flights to Asahikawa Airport, including services from Tokyo Haneda. Check airline schedules for your travel dates. From Asahikawa Airport, continue to the city or use a confirmed seasonal direct mountain service if available.

If you arrive at New Chitose Airport (CTS), take the JR train to Sapporo and connect to Asahikawa. Allow approximately 2.5–3 hours for the rail journey, depending on connections, plus time to reach your hotel. This is an alternative arrival route; Asahikawa Airport is closer to Kamui.

Kamui is around 30 minutes by car or approximately 40 minutes by seasonal bus from central Asahikawa. Bus routes, fares and pickup points may change each winter. Check the operator’s current timetable before travelling.

Related: Official access and buses

A reservation-based airport-to-Kamui bus operated during the 2025–26 season. Confirm whether it is operating for your travel dates, its departure times and its advance-booking requirements. Otherwise, travel via Asahikawa city or arrange a taxi or rental car.

Related: Official access and buses

No. A city-based stay with seasonal bus access can work well if you plan to ski mainly at Kamui. A rental car offers more flexibility for restaurants and exploring the wider region. If driving in winter, choose a properly equipped vehicle and allow extra time.

Related: Plan your snow holiday

Yes. Both are possible by car, although winter travel times vary. Kamui Ski Links lists approximate drives of 70 minutes from Furano and 90 minutes from Sapporo in favourable conditions. For a multi-day Kamui holiday, Asahikawa is generally the more convenient base.

Staying in Asahikawa

Central Asahikawa is a convenient base, particularly near the station or seasonal ski-bus pickup points. The city has accommodation across different budgets and styles, as well as restaurants and shops.

Related: Accommodation

Asahikawa gives you access to a working Japanese city, with local dining, shopping, healthcare and transport connections. Kamui is approximately 30 minutes by car or around 40 minutes by seasonal bus in favourable conditions, making the city a practical day-ski base.

You can ski during the day and explore the city in the evening, while retaining the option to visit other regional destinations. Always check the current winter bus timetable and allow additional travel time in poor weather.

Related: Your Kamui holiday

The new Kamui Resort village is under development, with future accommodation planned. Do not assume these facilities are open for your visit. For now, most visitors should plan accommodation in Asahikawa or elsewhere in the region.

Discover Kamui & Kamui Ski Links

Kamui offers the combination of a local Japanese ski area and an Asahikawa city-based holiday. Compared with Niseko, visitors may find a more local atmosphere, generally fewer international-resort crowds and a wider choice of city accommodation and dining. Costs vary by travel dates, accommodation, transport, lift passes and services, so compare the complete holiday rather than one price alone.

Furano offers another established Central Hokkaido alternative with its own resort and town experience. The best choice depends on your preferred terrain, accommodation, transport and holiday style.

Related: Staying in Asahikawa

Yes. Kamui Ski Links has terrain for different abilities, while Miura Snowsports offers private instruction and children’s programs. Please select lessons suited to each participant’s age and ability.

Related: Mountain information

The ski season typically runs from December to March, subject to conditions and operating decisions. January and February are popular for powder. Check the ski area’s published opening dates and daily report before travelling.

Related: Snow and operations

The two are closely connected geographically, but visitors should distinguish the mountain operating today from the new resort facilities being developed in stages.

Kamui Ski Links is an established operating ski area and can be skied during its published winter season, subject to snow, weather and operational conditions. Lift tickets, opening dates, snow reports and daily lift status are provided by Kamui Ski Links.

The new Kamui Resort village, accommodation and other planned facilities are being developed separately and should not be assumed to be open for your visit.

Related: Current mountain information

Furano, Rusutsu and Kiroro are established Hokkaido ski destinations, each with different terrain, accommodation, access and resort experiences. They may suit travellers who want an alternative to Niseko but still prefer an established destination.

Kamui offers a different style of holiday: skiing at a local mountain while staying in Asahikawa, with access to the city’s hotels, restaurants and wider regional experiences. The developing Kamui Resort village also represents an earlier-stage destination rather than a mature international resort.

Compare current transport, accommodation, lift operations and services for your travel dates before choosing.
